For this assignment you will review various articles and research regarding a current “hot topic” in the area of transgernder issues. Much controversy – for and against – transwomen competing in female elite sports is currently resulting in emotional debate within our culture. For this assignment you will review several articles and research journal periodicals regarding this topic. For this assignment do the following:
1. Prior to reading any articles indicate your position on allowing transwomen to compete in female elite sports (NCAA – college level or professional). Provide a clear critical analysis of the reason for your opinion. You need to consider all aspects of competition. The rights of the transwoman, the effect of the sport competition and the effect on biological women.
2. After presenting your opinion find two articles about Lia Thomas. Lia is a transwoman who is the center of a continuing controversy about her involvement in women’s sports. After doing so address the following:
a. Indicate what the controversy is about Lia Thomas.
b. Do you agree with Lia’s ability to compete or not. Please provide significant discussion about the reason for your opinion.
c. If you indicate Lia should compete within the women’s category indicate how this would affect women’s sports.
d. If you indicate Lia should not compete within the women’s category indicate how this would affect transgender atheletes.
3. Find two other articles that discuss if there is a competitive advantage for MTF athletes (one that indicates there is an advantage, one that does not) against biological women and address the following:
a. Provide a brief summary of the articles.
b. Did the research provide information that supported your opinion presented above?
c. Did the research provide information that changed the perspective you presented above?
4. The paper must include a title page, reference page and in-text citations in APA format.
