Achieving freedom is a common theme in novels.

Your first Critical Essay will be on the story you were required to read over the summer – (Invisible Man, by Ralph Ellison). In order for you to respond to the prompt, it is imperative that you have read the story thoroughly and have a grasp of the characters, plot, theme, conflicts, resolutions, etc. This is not an essay in which you re-tell the story as you will be given a prompt to respond in which you will be able to demonstrate your knowledge of the story by also utilizing supporting evidence from the story to substantiate any of your claims.
Mr. Cudal will provide each block with the writing prompt; and he will clarify what is expected of you and will respond to any of your questions to ensure you have every opportunity to plan, organize, and produce a “well-thought out” and “well-written” essay for which you should take great pride in presenting.
Your essay must be word processed, (12 point font, Times New Roman, double-spaced, paragraph form, etc.), in which you will submit through turnitin.com, and before the deadline for submission. Your essay will be evaluated based on your knowledge, interpretation, presentation, adherence to grammar, spelling, organization, thesis statement, supporting evidence, conclusion, etc.
NOTE: You will never be asked to re-tell the story! If you are not sure of what is expected of you (after Mr. Cudal has presented the prompt to which you are required to respond), then you must see him for the clarification you may require.
Likewise, it is imperative to review the Check List which can be found under the files tab in Canvas before submitting your final draft.
The minimum number of words is 500 of your OWN words, which indicates that quoted words are NOT part of the 500 words.
